| Folks, There are two
charity fund-raising events being organized and
implemented by SMSS alumni and friends in commemoration of the March
28-30, 2008 SMSS alumni and friends grand re-union and homecoming. These
are [click on the following hyperlinks to browse]:
We say "in commemoration" in the sense that
the above-mentioned events, if supported by majority of alumni and
friends, can help make the 2008 grand reunion and
homecoming a truly memorable one. This 2008 grand reunion could very
well be remembered as the reunion during
which 1.5 million pesos needed to complete the construction of the SMSS gym,
was realized through a united and concerted effort of SMSS alumni and
friends.
About 1 million pesos has already been raised
which has enabled the school to commence construction of the gym. But
this 1 million was raised mainly from the efforts of manong Rufino and
his non-alumni, non-Igorots and non-Episcopalian corporate friends
[P600,000];
and partly [about P360,000] by the SMSSAFF Sports Complex Committee Chaired by Norman
Longid and co-chaired by Edwin Abeya.
It would really be nice if the remaining 1.5
million pesos for finishing the SMSS gymnasium will be generated with
SMSS alumni matching the fervor of non-SMSS, non-Igorots and
non-Episcopalian SMSS friends in this charitable, health-oriented,
literacy-building, and juvenile-delinquency-preventive endeavor.
It would really be nice if we made 2008 a
valedictory year, so to speak, for the SMSS five-year development plan.
The year wherein the funding of a major finishing phase or component of the SMSS
five-year development plan was realized through a fun-filled SMSS alumni
and friends gathering spiced with productive fund-raising efforts.
Towards that end we will be monitoring and periodically broadcasting
the "whys" and "whereofs" as well as the latest developments of these
two events through this website and the SMSS emailing group [the SMSS
dap-ay in the sky].
So click on the above hyperlinks to read the
details of the two events and see where you can contribute your time,
talent, or treasure - whichever the Good Lord has endowed you with. Some
are endowed with the power of prayer. We certainly need that. Spreading
what SMSS is fervently pursuing for uplifting the lives of hinterland
folks in Igorotlandia is a talent. We
certainly need that. Sharing your treasure as in "Adi tako bokodan di
gawis" or "Ipeyas tako kayet nan gawis" is equally needed.
A Blessed, Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year to all of us.
