June 13 Update

Dear Everybody,

1. With Dr. Alipit's commitment to shoulder the bulk of the biggest cost item, the installation of security grills on all rooms other than the eight classrooms, we now have commitments for the entire repair and renovation work programmed for 2004 and for the repair and renovation of the other four rooms on the second floor, earlier scheduled for 2005. All of this is estimated to cost about 900000 pesos.

2. Repair and renovation work has already started and Mr. Dennis Faustino himself is in Sagada up to the end of July to personally supervise the work, together with his head carpenter.

3. Mr. Faustino, Mr. Guitilen (the interim OIC from 2004 to 2005), and the Sagada-based trustees are working hand in hand to get a good start for the new SMS with new faculty and new administration.

4. In consultation with the Sagada community (particularly the parents) and the other officers of SMSSI, Mr. Faustino is currently preparing a 5-year strategic plan to be presented to the alumni during the homecoming in December. This is the plan which, if implemented, will result in SMS becoming the high school of choice after five years   in the Mt. Province, and possibly in the entire Cordillera Administrative Region. The current repair and renovation work is part of the strategic plan.
