Sorry folks. I had to resend this
to correct Manong Ceasar's email. Please update Ceasar's email
address. It should be CEASAR CASTRO(cecastro@shaw.ca).
Thanks Ed.
To the LAFF Committee:
cc: SMSSAFF BOT and Officer and
President of SMSSI, Manong Rufino Bomasang
In the past few days, two of
our LAFF committee members, Emily Capuyan and Nellie Balola, and
I have been discussing about our library project. I am happy to
inform you that Emily Capuyan would like to donate a hectare
of pine wood that is ready for harvesting. I've discussed this
with Emily about talking it over with his siblings and family
first but I understand from her that this is okay. This donation
is in honor of their Father, Domingo Capuyan, who truly believed
in the value of education. Manong Domingo sent all his 10
children to SMS.
So folks in Sagada, please see
Emily's email below. To Manang Rhoda, please ask Ezra and
discuss with Emily's auntie - Beatrice Capuyan Agpad. Perhaps
we can have folks there to volunteer their labor to cut and
prepare the pine wood?
Incidentally, Mia and I have
been buying lumber and Ezra is keeping them in Atowanan. We plan
to build a house somewhere in Sagada when the time comes. Not
sure when yet. It may take a long long time to cut down, dry,
and prepare the pine lumber for SMS use. If there is no
alternative, you may use ours - but make sure you replace the
lumber..
To Emily, on behalf of the LAFF
Committee, I thank you for your support.
Layad am-in ken dakayo,
Edwin Abeya
Hi manong Ed,
If manang Rhoda and her son can
do it then let them do it. I understand the trees needs to
be cut down tapno ma ango sadapay osalen. They have to
contact my father's sister Beatrice Capuyan Agpad there in
Sagada and ask her of the whereabouts of Danonoy. I was
planning to contact my aunt but it will be very slow as they
don't have email addresses. Let them contact first my aunt
to check for the pine trees if it is enough as I think it
should because our property is more than 10 hectares.
If you plan to present this to
the Laff or the Sms board, it would be in memory or in
honor of my late father Domingo Capuyan who value education
very much when he was alive but did not have the oppurtunity
to finish his education in SMS but his 10 children are all
alumni of our beloved school, one of his children would like
to donate the wood needed for the library renovation for the
benefit of the Sagada children.
If it is up to me, I would even
let out of town students to stay in our house there in
Demang for free as long as they take care of it, tay ma-id
metlang met men te te e. But that is another issue of
course.
Men gaganat nan likna ay
tumulong ngem ammom met baken pareho nan liknan am-in nan
ipogaw. Look at us here in Canada, nasa-ek nan kalangakang
ko ay mang ibag bag baga dadapay igiginek. Or maybe I think
my approach is not very convincing. So I am exercising my
patience to wait for them.
Thanks, I'll remember to drop by
with my gang when ever we go down there.
I should be the one thanking you
and the others for all your effort you put on SMS.
Siya ngarud di.

I have past copies of the National Geographic Magazine.
If SMS does not need them please give them to St. James. My
Balik bayan box of books is ready to be shipped.
I usually sent them to Frank and now Muriel Longid.
Gloria,
Some door to door deliveries now reach Sagada, so check if the
door to door agents you are using can deliver up to Sagada.
Just $10.00 more than those sent to Baguio. It costs $79.00 to
send Balikbayan boxes, door to door through Johnny Air Cargo(New
York/New Jersey area) up to Sagada.

Manang Christina,
Thank you so much for your $300 pledge. Mia and I will match that.
We had a bit of an SMS reunion here during my mother-in-law's 40th day
memorial service. We discussed about ways in raising funds for the
library
and the auditorium. We were brainstorming on how to raise funds. One was
to
have a dinner/dance specifically for this project. If we were to hold
it,
say, in New York or New Jersey, we were wondering if we can get enough
folks
to come. At our recent induction party here in the DC area, we sold our
tickets at $45 and our cost was about $29.
Manog Rufino, if I remember correctly, the estimated cost for the
library
was about $10K. Is this a target we should be shooting for?

Thanks Rufino. The Physics, Chemistry, and Bio Labs (plus the
computer lab are all done and operational. I just observed class
experiments in Physics (inertia and gravity), and something with
chemicals. Kids are so excited about the labs! The stage in the
auditorium is almost finished. We are stopping work for the Pista
sa Santa Marya celebrations, but the whole auditorium (now called
the theater) should be finished in time for the Annual Board
Meeting. After this, we will start the Stapleton Hall renovations.
I will use the money you raised for the computers to advance the
expenses for the Stapleton Hall work, and the theater. The theater
renovation is my ob-obbo counterpart to the SMS alumni effort to
help the school.
Is there any word
on the Library and the Sports Complex?

Additional Donations for SMS Golf Tournament
I deposited today at Land Bank Buendia
a check for 150000 pesos payable to SMSSI for two platinum
sponsorships by Shell Philippines Exploration in the forthcoming
SMS golf tournament for the computer project.
I expect more donations, but even
now it looks like we already have more than enough to pay you
back what you have advanced for the 18 computers, purchase 3
additional computers for the library, finance the the Smart Wi
Fi istallation, and pay the rental of the system for the next
five years. This of course assumes that all the pledges from the
SMS alumni and friends abroad for the golf hole sponsorships are
paid and remitted, which I expect to be done very soon.
Any extra proceeds from the golf
tournament should be used to get started with the Stapleton Hall
renovation soonest before prices of construction materials
become too prohibitive and so that it is completed before the
next school year. As discussed, I appreciate very much your
offer to advance the balance of the funds needed, while the fund
raising campaign for the renovation is still going on.
By copy of this email, I would
like to request Inez to remit soonest what has already been
collected for the renovation. I also pray that other kind
hearted SMS alumni and friends will appreciate the urgency of
completing the renovation work and donate what they can
soonest.
Have a good day.
