Above pictures depict a clean and neat but relatively bare and antiquated library.
  • The library needs stocking with more books, magazines, periodicals and the like.
  • It needs to be upgraded with computer and internet aided methods of research and study as well as computerized library management technology.
  •  It needs to be renovated to meet the demands  of an expected surge of enrollment in St. Mary's School as well as library enthusiasts from outside the school. True to its commitment to share its resources,  St. Mary's School is opening its library to the Sagada community as well as other schools of nearby barrios and municipalities.
  • It needs  upgrading towards helping realize the vision and mission of St. Mary's School - to become the best school for hinterland communities in the Philippine Cordillera Administrative Region, if not the entire Northern Luzon.
  • The needed improvements are best described in the 5-Year Development Plan and by the Principal's [Dr. Dennis Fautino's] email to Rufino Bomasang and  Stmary'school@yahoogroups.com below.

Join the donors to the library or the LAFF Committee and become part of this exciting effort for SMS, the Sagada community and Igorotlandia.  LBS

Subject: RE: [StMarySchool] Sagada Ritual Book Sale

I just finished talking to John Padalla.  His estimate has gone up to P600,000 which is still within reach of the $10,000 originally quoted.  The physical renovation would include lowered ceilings, adequate fluorescent lighting, book shelves, tiling and electricals.  I am tearing up the old principal’s office and admin area and turning them into an audio-visual room that can fit in an entire class (32 people) for watching documentaries and good films.  The admin office will be relocated in the “museum” or guidance office next to my office and the faculty lounge.  The P600,000 estimate does not include the purchase of equipment that we will need in the audio visual room such as a large TV, DVD player, good sound system, and screen.

Eventually, I would like to place a multi-media projector (approximately $3000 in itself) in there so anything done in a computer can be flashed on the screen.  As for the theater, I would like furnish it with a good sound system, stage lighting, and a multimedia projector as well, but I am looking at my own contacts to get donations.  For a greater impact on student learning, I think the alumni should concentrate on the library and the audio visual room and its equipment.  I hope to get a list of periodicals subscriptions (like TIME and National Geographic) that students can use in their classes, and perhaps the local alumni can donate those; furthermore, I would hope that we can get the local alumni to organize a used book drive, whereby the local alumni can get old used books from their cabinets, and send them to gathering stations in Baguio and Manila for our library.  The only thing is, please no trashy novels, and antiquated textbooks.

I hope this info suffices until LAFF meets!

Greetings from Paradise.
