Dear Everybody,

I am pleased to report that the First St. Mary's School of Sagada Golf Tournament was a great financial success. The net income of 1,021,200 Philippine pesos certainly far exceeded our expectations when we first decided to hold it about six months ago.

A. RECEIPTS:

    1. Sponsorships by SMS alumni, relatives, and friends of 18 golf holes @ US $400  per hole @ 54 pesos to 1 dollar  (checks payable to SMSSI)----------------388,800 pesos

     2. Sponsorships by by various energy and mining companies (checks payable to SMSSI)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------440,000 pesos

     3. Other sponsorships by various energy companies to cover cost of tournament (checks payable to R. Bomasang)-------------------------------------------------------20,000 pesos

     4. Special sponsorships by five corporate partners of R. Bomasang to cover cost of tournament, $8000 @ 54 pesos to 1 dollar (paid to R. Bomasang)-------432,000 pesos

     5. Sale of tournament tickets, mulligan tickets, and ceremonial tee-off donations from sponsors---------------------------------------------------------------------------------190,000 pesos

                                                               TOTAL RECEIPTS---------1,470,800 pesos

B. DISBURSEMENTS

Expenses for green fees, food, car rentals, give away items, raffle prizes, trophies, and streamers-------------------------------------------------------------------449,600 pesos

C. NET INCOME---------------------------------------------------------------------------1,021,200 pesos

Notes:

1. All payments for hole sponsorships (item A 1) and other sponsorships payments in checks payable to SMSSI (item A2) have been remitted to SMSSI.

2. The excess of receipts for the tournament (excluding those paid directly to SMSSI)over the actual tournament expenses, which excess totals 192,400 pesos, will be remitted by R. Bomasang to SMSSI tomorrow, December 6, 2005. This is also the difference between the net income and the amounts already paid directly to SMSSI.

Since the net income far exceeds the cost of the computers and related expenses, (estimated at 600 to 700 thousand pesos) I have obtained the permission of my partners who donated the 432,000 pesos to use their donation for operating expenses. This is because the school is operating on a deficit and will continue to be so in the next few years until we have enough students, a much higher tuition fee, and possibly an endowment fund that is large enough so that the interest on the fund can make a difference. The school-year 2004-2005 in fact ended in an operating deficit of about half a million pesos. I have asked Dennis to post the financial statement in the website. A year ago, I  appealed to the alumni to do their share in helping SMS to meet its operating expenses, but the response has understandably not been as enthusiastic as that for the improvement of facilities.

As discussed in the last board meeting of SMSSI, we will campaign for faculty sponsors, similar to what Edwin, Mia, and Nellie are doing for the librarian. Dennis has in fact convinced some of his friends to sponor a few faculty members and I have offered to sponsor the science teacher again this year. If we can get sponsors who will shoulder the salaries of six more faculty members (estimated at 130000 pesos, or about 2410 dollars, a year per teacher), we should be able to substantially reduce the deficit.

For everybody's information and consideration.

Have a good day.

Rufino Bomasang

I am pleased to inform you that I just deposited today another 60000 pesos at LandBank Buendia from the following companies:

1. Salcon Power Corporation (siver sponsor)------------------------------25000 pesos
2. Barwil-Smith Bell (silver sponsor)------------------------------------------25000 pesos
3.Technology Export Services---------------------------------------------------5000 pesos*
4. Prodril Supply Company, Inc.------------------------------------------------5000 pesos*

* to be used for buying give-away items for the tournament

Please note that items 3 and 4 are earmarked for tournament give-aways. The tournament committee will purchase them in Manila and have them reimbursed later by SMSSI from these tournament-specific donations. However, if enough tickets are sold, it may not be necessary to touch these donations. All other donations are for the computer laboratory project.

Todate, I have remitted 365000 pesos in donations for the SMS computer project and 10000 pesos in tournament-donations.  I expect a few more.

I showed the SMS movie during the annual retreat of the Board of Trustees of Brent School last Saturday and everyone was impressed with what you have accomplished at SMS. Even Father Dimanche was impressed.

Dr. Dan Chalmers, the Chairman of the Board, immediately bought ten tickets for the golf tournament after seeing the movie. You will recall that it was Dr. Chalmers who first responded to my appeal for donations for the first phase of the facilities improvement program (various room renovations) in 2004 by donating 130000 pesos for the the comfort rooms. His act was immediately followed by various SMS alumni, relatives, and friends and the rest is history (the first phase of the facilities improvement program was finished one and a half years ahead of schedule). Just two months ago, Dr. Chalmers also donated old computers for St. James extension in Tamboan.

It looks like we will also be ahead of schedule on the other phases because of the continuing generous donations from alumni and our newly found corporate sponsors.

See you during the annual corporation meeting.

Thanks Rufino.  The Physics, Chemistry, and Bio Labs (plus the computer lab are all done and operational.  I just observed class experiments in Physics (inertia and gravity), and something with chemicals.  Kids are so excited about the labs!  The stage in the auditorium is almost finished.  We are stopping work for the Pista sa Santa Marya celebrations, but the whole auditorium (now called the theater) should be finished in time for the Annual Board Meeting.  After this, we will start the Stapleton Hall renovations.  I will use the money you raised for the computers to advance the expenses for the Stapleton Hall work, and the theater.  The theater renovation is my ob-obbo counterpart to the SMS alumni effort to help the school.

Is there any word on the Library and the Sports Complex?

Dear Dennis,

I deposited today at Land Bank Buendia a check for 150000 pesos payable to SMSSI for two platinum sponsorships by Shell Philippines Exploration in the forthcoming SMS golf tournament for the computer project.

I expect more donations, but even now it looks like we already have more than enough to pay you back what you have advanced for the 18 computers, purchase 3 additional computers for the library, finance the the Smart Wi Fi istallation, and pay the rental of the system for the next five years. This of course assumes that all the pledges from the SMS alumni and friends abroad for the golf hole sponsorships are paid and remitted, which I expect to be done very soon.

Any extra proceeds from the golf tournament should be used to get started with the Stapleton Hall  renovation soonest  before prices of construction materials become too prohibitive and so that it is completed before the next school year. As discussed, I appreciate very much your offer to advance the balance of the funds needed, while the fund raising campaign for the renovation is still going on.

By copy of this email, I would like to request Inez to remit soonest what has already been collected for the renovation. I also pray that other kind hearted SMS alumni and friends will appreciate the urgency of completing the renovation work and donate what they can soonest.

Rufino

Have a good day.

Dear Dennis,

I deposited today at Landbank Buendia six checks with a total amount of 165000 pesos for the account of SMSSI. These are donations for the computer project from major sponsors (gold and silver) and other sponsors, as follows:

a. UNOCAL Philippines, Inc.(silver sponsor)----------------------------25000
b. Glencore Far East Philippines AG (silver sponsor)------------------25000
c. Marubeni (gold sponsor)------------------------------------------------50000
d. JIBSEN International Trading Corporation (gold sponsor)----------50000
e. Aboitiz and Company, Inc.------------------------------------------- -10000
f. Guidance Management---------------------------------------------------5000
   Total-------------------------------------------- -------------------------165000

These are all energy companies who have no stake in SMS whatsoever, but who believe in helping to educate indigenous communities. I will email you later their complete addresses so you can send them the appropriate thank you letters.

This is just the first batch. I expect at least two platinum sponsors for 75000 pesos each.

With these and what has already been remitted by Inez and Raymond and the expected additional remittances from them, consisting mainly of donations from golf hole sponsors, we should have more than enough to cover at least the cost of all the computers and installing later the satellite system to have them connected to the internet.

Manong Rufino,

Hello!

Yes, you are exactly correct.  Eight (8) holes out of
the eighteen are sponsored under Glory and my care.
This totals three thousand two hundred dollars
($3200).
I have remitted to PNB bank Bontoc Branch the amount
of one thousand dollars ($1000) on July 30, 2005.

I want to know if that remittance reached Bontoc Bank
in a timely manner. Still waiting for the results.

Your other summary are in line with Aunt Inez
tabulation.  We are excited on the progress you lead
for SMS Golf.  Our prayers for you and all.

Swing for SMS,

Raymond

Inez and Raymond,

Thanks for the update. The following is my layman's summary based on your emails and please correct me if I am wrong:

1. Sponsorship for all 18 holes have been completed (for a total of $7200), which can be grouped into two: (a) 10 holes by various SMS alumni in the US and Australia to be paid through SMSSAFF and (b) 8 holes by Raymond Alipit and his family/friends to be paid directly to SMSSI.

2. Of the first category, 8 have been fully paid ($3200) and 2 have been partially paid ($500). Of the second category, Raymond has started remitting directly to PNB Bontoc, but Rhoda is still checking if this has been received.

3. In addition,  direct donations to the computer project were made through SMSSAFF totalling $1150, thus raising the grand total amount pledged/raised for the computer project to $8350.

Of the total $8350,  SMSSAFF has already remitted $2550 to SMSSI, another $2300 will be remitted soon by SMSSAFF, Raymond has remitted $1000 to PNB Bontoc and may continue remitting the balance of $2200 through this mode if it turns out to be effective, and the remaining $300 is still to be paid by the donors through SMSSAFF.

To say the least, I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for this project, which has turned out to be way beyond my expectations. I can assure you I am doing my very best to get my corporate contacts here in the Philippines to support us in this noble endeavour. I started writing them just two weeks ago and todate I already have two gold sponsors and two silver sponsors for a total of 150 thousand pesos. I expect more in the the coming weeks. In parallel, my friends and I will try to sell enough tickets to golf participants in order to cover the cost of the tournament itself.

Thank you once again. I will keep you updated on future developments.

Have a good day.

Rufino

Hi Aunt Inez,

Please know too that I have remitted to SMSSI ACCT.
No. below, PhilippineNationalBank Bontoc Branch an
initial installed remitance for SMS golf sponsorships
under my care of a thousand dollars ($1000) on July
30, 2005 thru the Arab National Bank here in Riyadh
bearing Remittance Application No. 8154191 and
Remittance Reference No. 051906176702. I wrote Manang
Rhoda thru Kent Kolot's address right after my
remittance.

I am waiting for any acknowledgment regarding said
remittance. I hope there was no difficulty at all in
such remittance reaching Bontoc.  If there was, I
should know so we could make the necessary trace and
collection procedures.

Thanks a lot,

Raymond

Dear Alumani Folks,

I have a donor/sponsor file in the order they were

hopefully I have not missed any donor/sponsor along

Dear Lambert:
We were hoping that the remaining  2 Golf Hole Sponsors  were filled until we got the recent  mails.  John and I talked about this situation and decided to complete the  $800.00 just to  facilitate Rufino's  arrangements for the Golf Tournament in October.  These 2 -hole Sponsorship should be from Josephine Alipit(Galpo) in memory of her loved ones.
We were debating whether to give this amount towards the Stepleton  Dorm renovations but  since Raymond and Gloria pledged so much, we are just hoping that  by completing the Golf Sponsorships, all prospective donors will focus on the Dorm Project since that is a pressing need at this time.  The check for $800.00  will be mailed today(8/4/05) to our Treasurer.  Thank you.  Manang JO

Hi there Raymond,

Thanks for updating us on how many more golf-holes are left for sponsorship and your remittances to the SMSSI PNB account, Bontoc branch.

Folks, may I reiterate the announcement of Raymond, the Chairman of the Computer Committee, that there are two more golf holes for sponsorship. One golf-hole sponsorship is worth $400.00 which can be sponsored singly by one person or jointly by two or more individuals. Each $400.00 golf-hole sponsorship will be matched by corporate donors in the Philippines, so this is an excellent medium for generating funds for the SMS computer laboratory and the satellite system as explained by manong Rufino Bomasang.

I join the rest in thanking  manong Rufino for thinking and implementing this golf fund-raising scheme for our beloved alma mater.

Lambert

Dear Manong President,

Congratulations!

Indeed you have our wows for this most awaited
announcement and you deserve a lot of hugs and also
pats in your back for this noble effort.  I will make
sure you will have mine soon.  We will be praying a
lot too for your sponsors in Manila and that includes
our remaining two golf hole slots on our side.  I have
begun remitting my share of sponsorships to SMSSI PNB
account Bontoc Branch and I am confident too that our
Computer Committee's commitment will be realized soon
before the First SMSS Golf Tournament tees off.
Please know we have every reason to rejoice for St.
Mary's and we are deeply honored to be part of this
exciting venture all for the love of our school.

Hallelujah,

Raymond Alipit
