Here's very exciting news from Lillian Yodong's SMS/gym presentation yesterday for her fellow parishioners.  Let's all keep on pulling together towards our goal of getting the gym built in Sagada.   Thank you Lil.

Dear Norman & Melo,

I want to tell you I did it! I rated my presentation as B+. I had an enthusiastic group and were ever so informed about St. Mary's due to our Vicar's pre and post interaction with Fr.. Archie Stapleton. He told me he and the late Archie knew each other being graduates of the University of the South, Sewannee, Tenn..

Vicar Tonsemeier will be sending the check for the amount of $1000.00. He will use the last leaf of the trifold I gave him. Was proud of myself giving first hand info of how I got education from SMSSAF. They were also proud of what we have and admire the Alumni refunding this Mission. I will enclose our church newsletter describing their intent, to you. I would appreciate it if we will be able to provide them (my church, St. Timothy's), tangible use of their donation. Our village church belongs to the Diocese of Atlanta, Ga..

God Bless us all. Praying for the success of our "giving back" to the school for our grand and great grand children.

Take care and stay well and safe, y'all,
Lil

Thank you, Manang Nellie!!

Hopefully, our tri-fold brochure to raise funds for the library and the gym will be finished within a week. Manong Norman has volunteered to print copies so we can send them out to friends and corporate donors.

For those in the USA, now is the time to look at reducing the federal tax on your 2005 income. The best way to reduce that is to send your tax-deductible donation to SMSSAFF for the library, gym, or other projects that are currently underway.

Have a good weekend, everyone!!

Edwin

 Manong John,

My enthusiasm about the Sports Complex has gotten me misunderstood.  Now, I am in big trouble.   But let us correct any misconception and get this project going.

I stepped forward to spearhead the drive for the building of the gym/auditorium.  During the last reunion at SMS in '04, For intitial support, I presented the idea to a bunch of relatives we refer to as descendants of our grandmothers we fondly refer to as  the "Four Sisters"(Masinnay, Kalogidan, Kangkanga, and Bistanga).   The fund raising effort is now on, and some checks have treckled into the SMSSAFF coffers, but a lot more work needs to be done.   But as manong John correctly commented, "everyone is welcome to contribute any amount where their hearts are".

The call now, therefore, is for everyone that ever played or cheered for SMS athletics, played a role in a play, etc  to dig into their pockets for any amount that they can donate for the cause. A gym/auditorium will be of great benefit not only to the people of Sagada but the entire Cordillera region.

Let it again be emphasized that this is not just Norman's project, or anyone one group's sole project, but everybody's project!    This is everybody's obobbo.  So guys, don't hold the checks any longer.  Start sending them to manang Inez as she is anxiously waiting to hear from you all!

Checks are to be made Payable to:  SMSSAFF Earmarked for the Gym/Auditorium

Mail to:  Inez Saley - 760 George St., Teaneck, NJ 07666.   Ala Kayet!   Matagotago nan SMS!

LAYAD,

Norman, aka Grendel

Correct me if I am wrong but I had the impression that during the  Meeting at the Centennial in Sagada , Norman and  Family  will finance the Sports Complex but of course anyone interested is welcome to contribute any amount where there hearts are.  Again,  there is no better feeling than sharing.

 Dear Lambert,

I'm sorry I didn't give you the names of our grandmothers.
I kept forgetting to find out the actual name of one of them
because I knew her only by her beday. I think the given
name of the grandmother of the Abeya-Bacagan-Olat families
was Kalugidan. Am I right, Nellie and siblings? The Pacyaya,
Malecdan, etc. grandmother was Masinnay. The Banagui,
Gayagay, etc. alapo was Kangkangan and the Alagon,
Andawi, and Longid's was Bistanga. Ours was the oldest,
alapo'y Kalugidan(?) was second, alapo'y Kangkangan
was third and alapo'y Masinnay was the youngest. I think I got
the order right. Any corrections? After we get correction or
confirmation from any of the Abeya siblings please add these
 names to your posting.

 Many thanks!

 Manang

 . . . . . . . . .
 Dear Lambert,

Just found out that there needs to be some clarification re the
above. From our earliest conversations about this we had already determined
and agreed that it be a project of all the descendants of  four sisters
(the grandmothers of  the following: Pacyaya, Malecdan, etc; Banagui,
Gayagay and others; Abeya, Bacagan, Olat, etc.; and the
Alagon, Andawi and Longid). Hence, we have referred to it
as "The Four Sisters Project". It is a huge undertaking and so we
also have called it our "Leap of Faith" contribution to St. Mary's. It is
our way of honoring our grandmothers who in spite of their many adversities
(they were orphaned when they were still very young) became the
heads of such a big and in so many ways blessed family. Also, it is
our thanksgiving offering to St. Mary's (and to Sagada and the Church of
St. Mary the Virgin) for all that these have meant to us.

I apologize for the use of "etc. and others families" but I am
embarrassed to admit that I can't remember all the family names of our
relatives. It's been so many years since I've been to all those family gatherings
in Sagada. That's another way of admitting that I am at the menkabaw stage.
We started putting together a list of all family members when we were home
last December. As you can imagine it will be a long list. We have tried to
make it clear that this will be our ob-obbo. Hence, while a large part of the
donations will be financial, an equally important portion will be in terms of
manual labor, material donations, engineering and architectural expertise, etc.
In our efforts to track down relatives all over the world, we might consider
putting out a call through the SMS E-mail network. I'll check with Norman
and others if we should go this route.

Thank you for taking time to read this. I mainly wanted to clarify that this
is not a "Norman Longid Family" project as I learned it's being referred to.
Also, you deserve an apology from us since we did not give you all
the above info from the start. That was a big oversight. So sorry!

Again, so many thanks for all you are doing.

Happy Easter to you and your family!

Manang
