Ed,
If the hardware and the monthly service
fee is as low as Kent mentioned, then we probably can raise
enough funds to put up the system and pay for a five year
subscription. After 5 years, we should by then have an SMS that
has more sustainable revenues (i.e. more parents willing to pay
higher tuition fees for quality education, much bigger
endowment and fund, etc.) and can maintain the system on its
own. Otherwise, we can use the excess funds for so many other
needs of SMS.
The next immediate needs of the
school are dormitories for boys for boys and girls. In the
5-year plan, these are scheduled for the fifth year, but during
the last board meeting, it was agreed that there is already a
need for living quarters for for non-Sagadian faculty
members and an expected increase in the number of students from
other places next year (like the 1950s and 1960s, when SMS had a
reputation for quality education). Thus, we are now looking at
fixing up the vandalized and currently unutilized Stapleton Hall
and using it temporarily as a dormitory. This interim set-up
will be replaced later by the more permanent dormitories. I am
told that this renovation work may cost anywhere from 100 to 200
thousand pesos, but I have not appealed to prospective donors
yet until Dennis gives me a definite estimate.
As you must have already gathered from my
exchange of emails with Norman Longid, the other very pressing
need is a covered gymnasium. We expect this to be funded by the
descendants of the Four Sisters.
I am confident that with all these
improvements, the parallel revamp of the curriculum, and all the
other changes being introduced at SMS, we will achieve our
vision for SMS.
