Dear folks:

Stapleton Hall is ready to be fixed up to adequately house a dorm master and students from the neighboring barangays.  We have received feedback that Antado, Tetepan, Kilong, Bangaan, and a few from Bontoc and Tabuk would come to St. Mary’s next school year if housing was available.  The building is still solid, in spite of the vandalism that was committed in years past.  It will not be plush, but fixed enough so that it is safe and secure, clean, and conducive to learning.  The P200,000 forecasted will include new electrical wiring, two toilets, fixing of ceilings and windows, and bunk beds plus mattresses.

The 4th phase of the strategic plan focuses on the renovation of the girls and boys dorm.  Robert Kwan of St. Luke’s Hospital has agreed to be a major partner in this project as the dorms will have apartments for visiting medical teams and guests of the parish, the hospital and the school.  The renovation will be scheduled in conjunction with the renovation of St. Theodore’s hospital, to which P20 million has been pledged by SLMC.  We are just awaiting the filing and approval of the Incorporation papers with the SEC so that the new Board of Trustees of STH can proceed with their plans.  I personally do not think that the renovation of the dorms will start until 2007.

In January, the faculty and I will be going to the surrounding elementary schools, including Bontoc, to “sell” St. Mary’s in January.  We hope to have three sections of 1st year students.   We are optimistic, because of the major improvements in facilities and changes in curriculum, that we will attract the best and the brightest, while maintaining a mainstream program that will service the children of our own community in Sagada.

Again, my thanks to your continued support and trust in us here at home.  After quarter, I am very pleased with the progress of the school towards our goal of being the best in the Cordilleras.  As ex-mayor Tom Killip and Ben Longid remarked upon visiting the school last week, “Why only the Cordilleras?  It looks like it’s going to be the best in Northern Luzon!!!”

Anyway, if we aim for the sky, we might reach the top of Mt. Everest!
