Offertory procession during the Sunday Eucharist

If tears shed, misty eyes wiped and post-conference Eucharist-related  stories were taken as measures of success, then the Vespers, the Saturday Mass and the Sunday Eucharist were all resounding successes. Many were still talking about these events in family gatherings after the conference officially ended at 3 PM, Sunday the 19th of August.

The conference vespers & Eucharist, the liturgies of which were crafted from circa 1950's versions and as practiced at St. Mary the Virgin, Sagada and other Anglican Churches in the old Mountain Province in Northern Philippines, resulted in many a tear drops fall and wiping of misty eyes.

No doubt, as the older alumni and friends recited or sung the liturgy of the circa 1950's vespers and Eucharists, fond memories of love ones and classmates gone by, heart aches and opportunities missed, nostalgic experiences which one could only wish his/her children or grand children could likewise experience, among others, were too much for the emotionally charged alumni/friends to bear, particularly the older ladies. To many, the pent-up emotions could only be released through a swelling of tears and/or reddening  of the eyes.

"Ayeh, gawigawis dis vespers"; "ayeh pay dis misa, umi pa-aga";  "ay siya dadlo dis misa, katega wada tet-ewa nan Holy Ghost id singba-an" were among the accolades heard.   English translation of the accolades: you can miss so many things for not attending  SMSSAFF sponsored reunions. So make sure to join the next one wherever it may be.

Kudos to the following:

  1. To Dr. John Alipit for hauntingly conducting  the Friday evening Vespers,  which included the singing of the Magnificat.

  2. The Rt. Rev. Bishop [Ret] Benjamin Botengan for singing/reciting beautifully the Saturday Evening Vespers and the Sunday Holy Eucharist.

  3. The Rev. James Kollin for delivering an inspiring Sunday Eucharist Homily.

  4. The Very Rev. Dario Palasi, who almost single handedly drafted the liturgies for the conference vespers, Saturday morning mass, and the Sunday Eucharist. He also was the celebrant and preacher during the Saturday morning mass.

  5. The Rev. Martin Bayang, who graciously provided the lyrics of the Rosary on the Mountain.

For those interested, hereunder were the liturgy of the conference Vespers and Holy Eucharist; the lyrics of the Rosary on the Mountain courtesy of the Rev. Martin Bayang and the text of the Homily of the Rev. James Kollin:
